AWARE (Adolescents with Awareness, Resources and Education)
This is a reminder for Grade 8 parents that our AWARE program begins this week. A representative from the AWARE (Adolescents with Awareness, Resources, and Education) Program will provide a parent presentation to compliment the AWARE Health Curriculum that Illinois mandates for all grade 8 students. AWARE is a comprehensive prevention program designed to provide eighth grade students with the information and resources that they need to face tough relationship issues. The AWARE program is comprised of three collaborative agencies: Teen Parent Connection, Robert Crown Center for Health Education, and YWCA West Suburban Center. Student workshop topics include teen pregnancy prevention and healthy decision making (Teen Parent Connection), sexually transmitted infection prevention (Robert Crown Center), and dating violence and sexual assault prevention (YWCA).
There was an informational zoom meeting in August presented by the AWARE program. If you would like more information about Teen Parent Connection or the AWARE program, please visit their website at: http://www.teenparentconnection.org/parents. If you still have additional questions, please contact Mrs. Marcinkewicz at 331-481-4000.
The dates for the AWARE program will coincide with our half-day programs. The first date is December 17 (Healthy Decision Making) and the remaining tentative dates are February 18 (Dating Violence & Sexual Assault Prevention), March 25 (Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention) and April 14 (Teen Pregnancy Prevention).
Please feel free to contact teachers or myself with any questions or clarifications you may need. We are always here to help.
